PHYSIOLOGICAL ASSESSMENT:

 

Weight and Height

Appropriate BODY MASS INDEX will be calculated

Urinalysis and Faecal Occult Blood (Haemoccult Test)

Cardiovascular exam

Respiratory & Spirometry Examination: Assessment of total lung function.

Abdominal examination

Rheumatological Examination: – assessing all joint function, gait and co-ordination.

Skin Examination: – checking for any skin abnormalities or changes.  

Limb Examination: checks pulses, circulation, sensation, and power of the limbs.

Central Nervous System Examination – neurological exam which assesses tone, power, reflexes, sensation, co-ordination of the limbs.

Audiometry:  Assess acuteness of hearing. 

Visual Screening:  You will be tested for Visual Acuity,  Visual Fields, Colour Vision. Depth & Perception. Eye Co-ordination and Tonometry: This enables early detection and treatment of diseases such as Glaucoma.

Smear Test – to look for abnormal cells in the cervix of the uterus.

Breast Examination – to check for cysts or any suspicious lumps.  If these are found a biopsy will be arranged.

FULL CARDIOVASCULAR ASSESSMENT:

 

Including Heart Rate, Blood Pressure, Electrocardiograph

STRESS ECG: Is a test of heart function and coronary artery blood supply. This test enables detection of early heart disease which results in successful treatment of coronary artery disease with people undergoing coronary artery bypass surgery before an acute heart attack. 

ABDOMINAL ULTRASOUND:  

 

(please come with a full bladder) to examine

Gall bladder, spleen, liver, bladder, uterus, ovaries, pancreas, kidneys, aorta (looking for abdominal aneurysms)

LABORATORY TESTS: 

 

Full Blood Count , Erythrocyte sedimentation rate (ESR) (Inflammatory Marker), Ferritin – Ferritin level reflects the iron stores in the body. Haemachromatosis is a condition where the body stores too much iron leading to damage of organs such as the liver, kidneys and heart.  

Lipid Profile – 40% of mortality in Ireland is due to cardiovascular disease and it is important to assess LDL (bad cholesterol), HDL (good cholesterol) and Total Cholesterol. The following blood will also be tested,

Renal Function Tests, Liver Function Tests, Thyroid Function Test, Ovarian Cancer Marker and Diabetes. The following may also be tested-Hepatitis (optional), HIV test (optional)and Coeliac test (optional) 

ADVICE ON DIET AND LIFESTYLE CONSULTATION:

 

After full physical examination  and assessment. the results of tests are explained and any health issues that are identified are discussed.  Stress analysis and advice regarding stress management and lifestyle modification will be given. A review of current diet and exercise regime will be completed and a personalised lifestyle plan will be developed.    

Dexa Scan (Optional): A test for osteoporosis. Osteoporosis is a common bone disease caused by insufficient bone tissue (also referred to as low bone mass). Osteoporosis is a major risk factor of fractures, bone pain and debility especially. This is recommended for women over the age of 50yrs or for those at high risk of osteoporosis (i.e. early menopause, on steroids and with a family history).  Cost: €100

 

REPORT:

 

A full confidential report will be sent to you and your General Practitioner, following your Executive Health Screening which will include your results, recommendations and advice from Dr. Mary Ryan MD (TCD), Consultant Physician & Endocrinologist.
